London Irish's Steven Shingler is one of six uncapped players to be selected in Scotland's 36-man squad for their opening two matches in the Six Nations Championship.
The versatile fly-half was born in Swansea but qualifies for Scotland through his Dumfries-born mum Jeanette.
Shingler, who played for Wales Under-20s in the Junior World Championships in Italy last summer, said: ?I would be massively proud to play for Scotland.
"My upbringing from my mother means I?ve always known about Scotland.
?I?ve got my gran, auntie, two uncles and two cousins in Langholm and other than the past year I?ve been up 15 years on the bounce to see them around the time of the Common Riding and I?ve competed in the Games as well.?
Irish head coach Toby Booth added: ?I am delighted that Steven has been named in Andy Robinson?s Scotland squad for the upcoming Six Nations.
"He came to us to further his rugby education and career and we are delighted to help him towards reaching his goals of becoming an international rugby player. His inclusion in the squad is a great reflection on his work ethic, ability and our programme".
Shingler has played at fly-half, inside centre and outside centre for London Irish since joining from Scarlets at the start of the season.
His older brother Aaron plays in the back-row for Scarlets and is line to be included in Wales's Six Nations squad.
Aaron congratulated Steve on Twitter following his selection.
London Irish centre Joe Ansbro is also in Scotland's provisional squad for their first two matches in the Six Nations Championship.
The squad will gather at St Andrews on the week beginning Monday 23 January before it is trimmed for match specific preparations for their opening game against England on February 4.
