iMpulse keychain game controller and key finder gains Kickstarter funding

iMpulse keychain game controller and key finder gains Kickstarter fundingThe iMpulse keychain game controller and key finder has gained Kickstarter funded status with pledges of more than double what it needed. The iMpulse is a rather neat looking game controller but where this one differs to all of the others that have come and gone is in the size department. The iMpulse is tiny and is designed to go everywhere your keys go as it comes with its own keychain. On top of being a game controller with dedicated buttons and joystick, it also acts as a key finder to help you find your keys too.

iMpulse is the SMALLEST wireless controller for mobile devices - it's also a key finder & media controller! (iPhone/iPad, Android, PCs) The iMpulse is built for mobile gaming. You can ALREADY play hundreds of iOS and Android games on the iMpulse, and we're constantly adding support for more games!

The iMpulse is cute, tough, and kicks butt. You can finally play games like Temple Run, Pac-Man, Air Attack HD, and Dynamite Jack with the true tactile response of real trigger buttons, while you slide the thumbstick with abandon. NO MORE having to dodge your own thumb to SEE where you're trying to go.

If all of these features were not enough, the iMpulse can also be used to control media playback and become a remote camera shutter controller too. If you like the look of the iMpulse, it?s not too late to become an early adopter. You can be one of the first to get your hands on one by pledging at least $25; be quick as there are only six days left to go. The iMpulse has already attracted nearly $100,000 of pledges so has almost doubled its pledge target for funding.

What do you think of the iMpulse?

Romney wins major newspaper endorsement in Iowa

Romney in Pensacola, Fla (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

LAND O'LAKES, Fla.?Mitt Romney won a major newspaper endorsement on Saturday, as the Des Moines Register's editorial board formally backed the GOP candidate's bid for the presidency.

It was the first time in 40 years the influential battleground state paper endorsed a Republican in the general election, dating back to its support of Richard Nixon in the 1972 election. The Register previously backed Romney in the 2012 GOP primary.

In an editorial published on the newspaper's website Saturday night, the Register called both Romney and President Barack Obama "superbly qualified," citing their service in government and the fact they are both "devoted husbands and fathers."

But according to the paper, it determined Romney was better positioned to "forge the compromises in Congress" necessary to turn the economy around, create jobs and get the federal budget back on track.

"Romney has made rebuilding the economy his No. 1 campaign priority--and rightly so," the Register's editorial read.

At the same time, the paper noted Obama's "best efforts to resuscitate the stumbling economy have fallen short."

"Nothing indicates it would change with a second term in the White House," the paper said. "Barack Obama rocketed to the presidency from relative obscurity with a theme of hope and change. A different reality has marked his presidency. His record on the economy the past four years does not suggest he would lead in the direction the nation must go in the next four years."

The Register noted that Romney is likely to face the same kind of political opposition that has challenged Obama's first term agenda. But the paper expressed hope that Romney might be able to forge the same kind of alliances that helped him govern as a Republican in Massachusetts.

"Voters should give Mitt Romney a chance to correct the nation's fiscal course and to implode the partisan gridlock that has shackled Washington and the rest of America--with the understanding that he would face the same assessment in four years if he does not succeed," the paper wrote.

It's unclear how the Register's support will influence the race in Iowa, where polls have found Romney and Obama in a statistical dead heat. Romney scheduled to campaign in the state Monday. He spent two days in the state earlier this week.

ASUS unveils RT-N12HP WiFi router with extra-long antennas: compensating for anything?

ASUS unveils RTN12HP WiFi router with extralong antennas compensating for much

If getting long-range WiFi is a perpetual battle, ASUS just started a nuclear war. Its fresh RT-N12HP router carries a pair of (thankfully removable) high-gain, 9dBi antennas and a separate signal amplifier that can jointly boost the range of the router's 802.11n wireless up to 300 percent versus challengers that reach the same 300Mbps peak speed. Beyond that, the hotspot mostly claims sheer flexibility as its virtue with support for as many as four separate WiFi networks and a fast toggle between pure router, access point and repeater modes. Once ASUS confirms that we can grab the N12HP in specific countries, it'll likely deliver a good signal from corner to corner in most any home -- and invite some Freudian interpretations.

Meredith Miller turns focus to breast cancer awareness as she ...

Meredith Miller, recovering from a hand injury sustained at day 2 of the Providence Cyclocross Festival (shown here on day 1), has turned her focus to breast cancer awareness. Photo: Wil Matthews | www. wilmatthewsphoto.com

On October 7, with two laps to go at day 2 of the Providence Cyclocross Festival in Providence, Rhode Island, Meredith Miller felt strong and in control. With five top-six performances in her 2012 ?cross season, she felt confident and ready to execute her race plan.

Instead, a crash and two broken metacarpal bones in one hand ended her day. It did not, however, end her season.

The California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized rider may be sidelined now, but her ?cross season is far from over. She told VeloNews Friday afternoon that she still has her sights on securing one of five spots for February?s world championships in Louisville, Kentucky.

After consulting with several doctors and visiting the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine in Colorado, Miller decided to undergo surgery for the spiral fractures in her right hand. Her checkup on November 18 will, she hopes, confirm her return to competition.

In the meantime, she stays fit by riding indoors, while at the same time raising money for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month through her team?s ?Pretty in Pink? campaign. Miller began wearing pink while racing cyclocross? in 2010, but has since developed the campaign even further.

?Wearing pink is great, but I felt like I was taking the easy way out,? Miller said. ?I wanted to do more.?

To date, Miller has raised $15,000 over the past two years for Hope Lives, a breast cancer awareness center in Fort Collins, Colorado. She aims to raise $10,000 this year alone. By selling socks, T-shirts, and bike jerseys emblazoned with the slogan, ?Pink is the new fast,? Miller is already approaching that goal.

She has also drawn attention and support for the campaign through an online raffle featuring her new ?cross bike, a SRAM-equipped Specialized S-Works Crux with Zipp wheels.

The entire Cal Giant cyclocross team ? whose men?s squad includes junior racer Yannick Eckmann; under-23 rider Cody Kaiser; Tobin Ortenbald, second this year at the national junior cross-country championships; and masters rider Justin Robinson ? is racing in pink this season to raise breast cancer awareness.

Miller aims to rejoin her teammates at races in California and Oregon in early December, race in World Cups in Europe over Christmas weekend, and contest the national championships in January. Racing during the holidays was not what Miller had envisioned for her season, but she said that, once healthy, she will do what?s needed to qualify for her fourth worlds team.

?It is a big deal having worlds in the States this year,? Miller said.

EU ISP Association Slams CleanIT Project for Naive Internet ...

The European Internet Services Providers Association (EuroISPA) has criticized the CleanIT project, which is funded by the European Commission (EC) and claims that it wants to fight online terrorism through voluntary self-regulation measures, for effectively forcing ISPs into censoring internet content and threatening unworkable rules.

A recent leak of the CleanIT project suggested a heap of unusual and largely unworkable measures, which EuroISPA criticized for showing a very ?superficial knowledge of the Internet sector?. Indeed one proposal called upon online services to introduce new rules that would force?internet users?to use their real names, which as any webmaster knows would never work.

Another idea suggested that ISPs should be held liable for not making a ?reasonable? effort to use technological surveillance to identify ?terrorist? internet use, while a related proposal demanded that ISPs should also be held liable if they use end-user filtering systems but fail to report ?illegal? activity identified by the filter (filters can?t usually identify the content itself, only the type of traffic).

EuroISPA Gripes

1. The General Principles of the CleanIT Project do not provide any evidence or statistical information whatsoever to justify the adoption of ?additional measures? by Internet providers in relation to allegedly terrorist content. An evidence based approach is the backbone of any legislative or self-regulatory intervention. Lacking any comprehensive assessment showing clearly where the shortcomings lie, any action, particularly if ?proactive?, would risk creating a problem that does not exist.

2. The CleanIT Project shows clearly a superficial knowledge of the Internet sector. The documents on the CleanIT Project?s website refer to ?Internet companies? in general, but for the purposes of the project a holistic approach can?t be taken. For example, the notice and take down procedures proposed in the project are relevant only to companies that are hosting providers. Pure access providers cannot deploy this tool. Access Providers, due to the ambiguous terminology would, however, still be bound to follow the proposed procedures and, in fact, are mentioned alongside content delivery companies and content publishing companies.

3. The CleanIT Project proposes that Internet companies take proactive measures to detect the ?unequivocal use? of the Internet for terrorism purposes specifying that where the industry ?cannot agree? on the unlawful nature of content, only then should a judge be requested to perform such a value judgment. This is a clear attempt to privatise the law enforcement and judicial duties in relation to a specific content, terrorism, whose illegality greatly depends on the context.

4. The CleanIT Project seems to overlap with other initiatives currently discussed by other Commission?s Directorates-General, i.e. the ?Notice&Action? initiative by DG Internal Market (addressing illegal activities online in a horizontal way); the ?Open Voluntarism? initiative (to create a European, principles-based code of conduct for self- and co-regulatory mechanisms) and the ?ICT4Society? (to set a multi-stakeholders platform to advance Corporate Social Responsibility in the ICT sector) by DG CNECT.

5. The CleanIT Project has not been endorsed by the ISP community. The disclaimer on the website of CleanIT goes as far as specifying that even if some companies attended the meetings ?[t]his does not implicate any commitment to temporary or future results by the individuals or their organization?. This clear acknowledgement of lack of support is symptomatic of the legitimacy of the CleanIT project and of the restrictive and, sometimes, even dangerous measures proposed.

The EuroISPA said that in its current form CleanIT is a ?serious threat [to] democratic values?, would have a negative impact upon EU businesses and risked introducing a significant degree of legal uncertainty.

The association went on to strongly reject the implementation of ?doubtful technical measures? to monitor legal communications online, the elimination of anonymity online and the relegation of the judiciary to a last resort instance.

Syria undecided on ceasefire proposal, rebels divided

BEIRUT/CAIRO (Reuters) - Syria said on Wednesday its military command was still studying a proposal for a holiday ceasefire with rebels - contradicting international mediator Lakhdar Brahimi's announcement that Damascus had agreed to a truce.

The statement threw Brahimi's efforts to arrange a pause in the bloodshed in Syria into even more confusion, as divided rebel groups fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad gave mixed messages.

The prominent Farooq Brigade, which operates out of the battered city of Homs, said it would cease fire. The Islamist militant Al Nusra Front rejected the truce, saying it is not a group "who accepts to play such dirty games."

A previous ceasefire arrangement in April collapsed within days, with both sides accusing the other of breaking it.

Brahimi, the joint U.N.-Arab League special envoy, had crisscrossed the Middle East to push the warring factions and their international backers to agree to a truce during the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha - a mission that included talks with Assad in Damascus at the weekend.

"After the visit I made to Damascus, there is agreement from the Syrian government for a ceasefire during the Eid," Brahimi told a news conference at the Arab League in Cairo.

Within an hour, Syria's Foreign Ministry said the proposal was still being studied by the military commanders. "The final position on this issue will be announced tomorrow," a ministry statement said. Brahimi later told the United Nations Security Council that Assad himself accepted the truce.

The holiday starts on Thursday and lasts three or four days. Brahimi did not specify the precise time period for a truce.

Nor did the initiative include plans for international observers, and rebel sources had earlier told Reuters there was little point if it could not be monitored or enforced.

Assad's forces and rebels are now locked in a battle with huge potential ramifications in the northwest.

Syrian warplanes carried out bombing raids on Wednesday on the strategic northern town of Maarat al-Numan and nearby villages while rebels surrounded an army base to its east, an activist monitor said.

Five people from one family, including a child and a woman, were killed in the air strikes, according to Rami Abdelrahman, head of the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Maarat al-Numan has fallen to the rebels, effectively cutting the main north-south highway, a strategic route for Assad to move troops from the capital Damascus to Aleppo, Syria's largest city where the insurgents have taken a foothold.

But without control of the nearby Wadi al-Daif military base, their grip over the road is tenuous and the rebels say the ferocity of counter-attacks by government forces shows how important holding the base is to Assad's military strategy.

    CHILDREN KNIFED

More than 32,000 people have been killed in the conflict, which began with peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations in March 2011 and then mushroomed into civil war as repression increased.

On Wednesday, opposition activists and Syrian state media traded blame for the killing of at least 25 people, including women and children, in the town of Douma near Damascus.

"People now are scared and very angry. Some of the martyrs were killed with knives, others were shot," Mahmoud Doumany, an activist living in Douma, told Reuters.

Syrian state television said 25 people had been killed by "terrorist members of the so-called 'Liwa al-Islam.'"

Opposition video showed the bodies of women and children, one of whom had a hole in his head.

"God is great," said a man off screen, his voice trembling as he walked around the house, filming bodies on several floors of a residential building.

    REFUGEES FLEE BOMBARDMENTS

Hundreds of Syrian refugees have poured into a makeshift refugee camp at Atimah overlooking the Turkish border, fleeing a week of what they said were the most intense army bombardments since the uprising began.

"Some of the bombs were so big they sucked in the air and everything crashes down, even four-storey buildings. We used to have one or two rockets a day, now for the past 10 days it has become constant, we run from one shelter to another. They drop a few bombs and it's like a massacre," one refugee, a 20-year-old named Nabil, told Reuters at the camp.

The army relies on air power and heavy artillery to push back the rebels.

Human Rights Watch said the Syrian air force had increased its use of cluster bombs across the country in the past two weeks. The New York-based organization identified, through activist video footage of unexploded bomblets, three types of cluster bombs which had fallen on and around Maarat al-Numan.

Cluster bombs explode in the air, scattering dozens of smaller bomblets over an area the size of a sports field. Most nations have banned their use under a convention that became international law in 2010, but which Syria has not signed.

In contrast to the Libya crisis last year, the West has shown little appetite to arm the Syrian rebels, worried that weapons would fall into the hands of Islamic militants.

Russia, which has backed Assad through the conflict, sold his government $1 billion worth of weapons last year and has made clear it would oppose an arms embargo in the U.N. Security Council.

No Charge Business Workshops Offered in South Lake Tahoe ...

Peace of Mind Float Spa L.L.C. is Lake Tahoe's premiere Sensory Deprivation (Float Tank) destination. We provide 2 float tanks as well as a Far Infared Sauna and an Aroma Therapy Oxygen Bar to enhance your complete flotation experience. Operated by Karin and Darin Nobriga, long time Tahoe locals. We provide the most relaxing mind and body experience in the Tahoe basin.

We're located at 290 Kingsbury Grade, Stateline, Nevada next to the Goal Post and a quarter mile from the Stateline casinos. We offer local and casino employee discounts and encourage those who haven't floated, to try the most relaxing experience of their lives.
    What is Floating?
Floating is a therapeutic treatment that isolates the user from environmental stimulus, greatly reducing stress, and easing the body into a state of equilibrium. Floating is also known as flotation therapy, floating therapy, float therapy, restricted environmental stimulation therapy (or REST), and Epsom salt hydrotherapy. The flotation tank is referred to as an isolation tank, sensory deprivation chamber, float tank, floating tank, and rest tank.

The flotation tank itself is a sensory deprivation pod with 10 inch deep water warmed to 93.5 degrees and enriched with 800 pounds of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). The tank has an advanced filtration/purification system that operates according to regulations from the State of Nevada.

The space inside is approximately 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. Although some may be wary of feeling claustrophobic the first time they float, the tank door opens freely and you are in complete control. You can come and go as you wish. You can also float with the door open. For those who would like audio stimulation, relaxing music is available.
The experience of floating is unique. Inside the tank you?ll float effortlessly on the surface of 93.5 degree water. Floaters feel a sense of weightlessness. That weightlessness, the temperature of the water, and the dark, quiet space of the tank allow the brain to ease into a theta* brain wave state. This usually happens in the second half hour of a one hour float session. First time floaters should not expect instant results. Generally it takes more than one float to completely ?let go? and fully experience flotation.

Your network security doesn?t even look sort of like this, but it?s okay if you pretend that it does.

Your network may not be as secure as you think it is. After all, a single crack in the dam can bring a flood of malicious software in and, worse, send your private company data surging out. Small and medium-sized businesses are especially vulnerable, as most lack IT staff dedicated specifically to network security.

Here are five surprisingly common ways that business internet networks are compromised.

    1. Lackluster Passwords

Despite how often people are told to create strong passwords, many resort to simple, memorable phrases that have substantial personal meaning. These one-word passwords can be cracked almost instantly. Once a single user is compromised, the entire internet network is vulnerable.

Strong passwords should be moderately long (five characters is a bare minimum), include symbols and/or numbers, and include both capital and lower-case letters. For example, while the password ?gandalf? would be cracked instantly, the password ?Gandalf2012!? would take an average computer approximately 344 thousand years to crack.

Institute mandatory password policies. In many content management systems, you can customize the settings to require a minimum level of password strength before the password can be set or changed. It?s also important that newly created accounts don?t come accompanied by default passwords such as ?changeme? or ?password,? as malicious users are on the lookout for temporary gaps in security such as these.

    2. Unrestricted USB Drives

It?s understandable that you or your employees may want to bring in files from a USB drive, but it?s also an easy way for hidden malware to get past your network?s security. Restricting thumb drives altogether is an extreme measure that can be avoided if you make some key adjustments to your system.

First, change your computer?s auto-run parameters. Several modern ?worms? were developed specifically for USBs, with the key idea being that the virus would run automatically once the thumb drive was plugged into a system. The exact process for safeguarding yourself from auto-runs will vary depending on which version of Windows or Mac OS you?re running, but the key principle remains the same: Don?t let applications on USB drives run automatically.

Second, ensure that your anti-virus program automatically scans files on USB drives. Many of the mainstream anti-virus programs do this by default, but the precaution is not universal, so check the anti-virus software?s documentation and settings.

Third, don?t allow non-trusted parties plug in a USB storage device. It?s far too easy to plant files or malicious software if you know what you?re doing, so restrict outsiders or temporary workers from using these devices.

    3. Firewall and Anti-Virus

It should be obvious that each system needs to have an updated anti-virus program and firewall running. The key element that many small businesses miss, however, is that the programs need to be updated consistently and system scans need to be run regularly. Restrictions on user permissions sometimes prevents these updates, and running a system scan during normal working hours can slow down employees.

The best option is to have a regularly scheduled time to update these programs and run system scans from an administrator account. Generally speaking, you should complete this process at least once a week.

A firewall program should also be enabled on your router to provide an extra layer of protection for your network. Anti-virus software for routers may also be a worthwhile investment.

    4.Your Wireless Network Settings

If you don?t yet understand how fundamental it is to use a secured as opposed to an open Wifi connection, you should seriously consider hiring a professional to look at your network. If you are aware that your network at least needs to be sealed off, here are some additional precautions you should take:

    • Don?t use the default router name. Default router names give away far more details about your network than you may realize; an experienced hacker can learn your router?s access IP address, default password, and default administrator username just by knowing which company provided the router itself.
    • Change the default administrator username and password for your router. Otherwise, anyone who knows your router?s brand can tap into your network.
    • Use WPA, not WEP. WEP security is decent for private use, but it is vulnerable to the more persistent breeds of hacker. All professional networks should use WPA encryption.

Once the network is secure, the only other precaution you need to take is not handing the password to anyone who isn?t a trusted member of the company.

    5. Email

Spam is annoying for employees, but it?s also one of the most common ways that computers are infected and network security is breached. A good email program and a tested anti-spam program are an absolute must, and setting your anti-virus software to automatically scan all email attachments is generally a wise idea.

Another way email becomes vulnerable is through ?phishing,? where a malicious user attempts to trick a company representative into sending their login credentials. Phishing becomes far more of a threat for your business if an employee has the same username and password for personal accounts as they do for their business email or your company?s online platforms. Implement a policy that usernames and passwords must be unique to the business systems.

These five chinks in the armor are often left unpatched, and the results can be disastrous. By implementing the fixes and security precautions described above, you help to ensure that your business network remains secure and your company information remains safe.

A Wise Woman Builds Her Home: Home and Family

?The family should be a closely knit group.?

    The home should be a self-contained shelter of security;

a place where wholesome recreation and simple pleasures are enjoyed."

    Early Metaphysical Ideas

    Early Metaphysical Ideas

Are our actions the result of circumstances or are we directed by external influences such as Cosmic vibrations? There are individuals who are masters and creators of their destinies for part of their lives, and innocent victims of fate at other times.

Some individuals believe it is the environment that has gradually molded our civilization and made mankind what it is. Others believe you may want to lay aside that belief and think again. There is an ancient system of self-mastery that contains fundamental principles that suggest you have complete control over your fate and that mankind has always had it.

These fundamental principles were recorded centuries ago and were evolved through observation over time. The principles were founded and perfected by test and application and reveal that all life and all existence within the universe are expressed in cycles.

It was determined that the cyclic periods are equivalent to certain measured rhythmic stresses and cosmic impulses . So, at a certain time of the day there is a cosmic impulse that is specific for reaping the benefits of a specific human activity. Go work out at the gym during the G period on Friday, for example.

Enthusiasts who believe in these principles might set a wedding ceremony to begin at 5:30 pm on a Thursday in order to reap all the positive influences for their union. They have become masters of their fate because they have timed their union to begin when the cosmos is most in favor of marriage.

According to the true believers the newlyweds will have the advantage over couples who marry without this knowledge. The newlyweds believe there are cosmic vibrations that have negative effects on couples who marry during a time of negative influences related to marriage.

Modern scientists have found that there is a definite rhythm to the human breathing process and heart action that closely resembles the more pronounced rhythms of cosmic energy. These findings suggest that these vibrations influence all living things on the planet ? including plants. The findings also suggest that the influences can be timed and measured.

The ancients who studied these influences were convinced that we can become master of our fate by designing our activities around the daily cycles and time periods suggested in these studies. These studies began with ?The order of The Rosicrucians.? Further information regarding The Rosicrucians is available online.
